Essex 2016 Gala Report
Forty-five swimmers represented Killerwhales in six days of tough competition at the 2016 Essex Age Group Championships. Throughout the Championships Killerwhales accomplished a total of four Gold medals, two Silver medals, twelve Bronze medals and fifty four placed finishes. In addition to this success four swimmers achieved eight new Club records across their respective age groups.
Sacha Thomas set a new 12 year old Club record with Gold in the 50m Freestyle event with a time of 29.55, with 11 year old Noah Jameson-Neal winning Gold and setting another Club record of 20:15.30 in the very demanding 1500m Freestyle event. Lisa Murphy triumphed in the 800m Freestyle event with a time 9:38.69, with Lewis Clifford-Stephenson also winning Gold in the 50m Freestyle in 23.43.
Silver medals were picked up by Daniel Sida in the 200m Backstroke with a time of 2:27.96 and Harry Spencer in the 1500m Freestyle in 18:08.26. A total of eight swimmers secured Bronze medals, eleven year old Cydnie Peterson recorded another Club record in the 50m Butterfly with a time of 32.49, followed up with another Bronze in the 100m Butterfly in 1:15.79. Daniel Sida added to his medal collection with two Bronze medals in the 100m Freestyle in 59.68 and the 50m Freestyle in 27.02. Lisa Murphy won a Bronze in the 400m Freestyle with a time of 4:45.46 with Lucie Davis achieving third place in the 800m Freestyle in 9:48.79. Sam little won a Bronze in the 50m Freestyle in 28.31 with Tilly Pearson achieving the same placed finish in the 100m Breaststroke event in 1:21.94. Sacha Thomas achieved her second Club record of the Championships with Bronze in the 50m Butterfly in a time of 32.18, while narrowly missing out on Gold and Silver in the 100m Freestyle in a time of 1:04.18. Noah Jameson-Neal rounded off the Bronze medal winners in the 400m Individual Medley in 6:02.02 and the 200m Butterfly in 2:53.24.
Another two Club records were set by eleven year old Cydnie Peterson in the 50m Freestlye in 31.08 and in the 50m Backstroke in 36.55. Ten year old Maisie Lawn recorded the seventh new Club record in the 50m Butterfly in 38.14 with twelve year old Sacha Thomas completing the eight in the 200m Freestyle in 2:23.65.
There were many more great performances throughout the Championships with eighteen swimmers achieving a further 54 placed finishes, and many more swimmers achieving Personal Best Times.
