Sheffield 2016 Gala Report
Eighteen swimmers from Killerwhales travelled to the City of Sheffield on the 13th March to compete in the 2016 March Madness swimming gala. This was a very competitive meet therefore it was a good achievement to come away with one gold, two silvers, two bronze medals and yet another two KWSC club records.
Sam Little recorded the first club record with a great swim in the 50m Freestyle event with a time of 28.07. 11 year old Cydnie Peterson followed this up with another great swim in the 50m Backstroke in 35.87.
In the youngest 9/10 year old age group Ellie Shanahan competed in four events while achieving three personal best times. Ellie’s best placed finishes came in the Butterfly events, 5th in the 100m event in 1:32.32 and 6th in the 50m in 40.52. Macy Huthwaite swam personal best times in all the events she competed in, her best finish was in the 50m Freestyle with a time of 36.9. Olivia Cooper was the third swimmer to compete in the 9/10 age group, Olivia swam PB’s in all of her events with the best placed finish coming in the 50m Breaststroke in a time of 48.86.
Six swimmers competed in the 11/12 year old category. Aaron Edwards picked up five personal best times across his five events, Aaron’s best finish came in the 100m Freestyle in 1:13.05. Cerys Freeman also had a great meet achieving PB’s in all of her six events, Cery’s recorded her best finish in the 100m Freestyle with a time of 1:13.25. As well as achieving a new Club Record Cydnie Peterson came away with three PB’s, one Gold and a 4th placed finish. Cydnie won Gold in the 50m Butterfly in 32.83 and took home 4th in the 50m Backstroke in 35.87. Isabel Setford swam in seven events, each in personal best times, Isabel’s best finish came in the 50m Backstroke in 39.48. Joshua Frampton competed in five events while achieving three PB’s with his best finish being in the 50m Breaststroke in 44.06 and the 100m Breaststroke in 1:36.40. Noah Jameson-Neal rounded off the competitors in this age group achieving a total of two personal best times with his best finish coming in the 100m Butterfly in 1:18.66.
Six swimmers from Killerwhales competed in the 13/14 year old age group, Francesca Thomas picked up a PB in the 100m Freestyle in 1:09.52 and recorded her best placed finish in the 100m Breaststroke in 1:33.22. Jade Braybrooke swam a PB in the 50m Backstroke event in 35.20 and took home 4th in the 100m Backstroke in a time of 1:14.74. Kate Hill swam two best times with her best finish being in the 100m Butterfly in a time of 1:18.45. Katie Fitzwater’s best finish in this age group was in the 100m Breaststroke in a best time of 1:32.66 and in the 100m Backstroke in 1:21.14. Sam Little picked up two best times along with his new club record, Sam finished 6th in the 50m Backstroke in 33.93 and 6th in the 50m Freestyle in 28.06. The last swimmer in this age group was Yasmin Kadhim, Yasmin competed in six events, picked up five personal best times with her best placed finish coming in the 100m Backstroke in 1:15.96.
Three swimmers competed in the 15 years and over category. Calvin Gowers had a good day picking up three personal best times with his best finish coming in the 100m Backstroke in 1:23.24. Haashim Hameed picked up a PB in the 50m Backstroke with a time of 35.38, with his best finish being in the 50m Breaststroke in 36.95. Tilly Pearson had a number of good finishes, Tilly won two silvers in the 50m Breaststroke in 37.96 and the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:23.52. Tilly followed this up by taking home a bronze in the 50m Backstroke in 34.49 and bronze in the 100m Backstroke in 1:17.01.
