Sixty four swimmers travelled to Enfield to compete in the 2016 Summer Open Meet. Killerwhales came away with 109 medals in total, 31 Golds, 39 Silvers and 39 Bronze, we also achieved an impressive 263 Personal Best times. Ten swimmers competed in their first licensed gala, from the 42 events competed in these swimmers achieved a Silver medal, 2 Bronze medals and 39 placed finishes.

 The swimmers competing in their first gala were Antonio Lubwama, Danny Moody who won a Bronze medal in the 100m Breaststroke in a time of 2:08.83, Ellie Willis, Evangeline Gadson who picked up a Silver medal in the 50m Freestyle in 42.32 and a Bronze in the 50m Breaststroke in 50.72, Jack Thomas, Natalia Ahmed, Noah Saggers, Ramya F Hanafiah, Scarlett Strange and Sienna Sethi.

In the 9 year old category we achieved 6 Golds, 5 Silvers, 5 Bronze medals and 38 PB’s. Olivia Cooper had a terrific gala winning Gold across all events she competed in, the 50m and 200m Freestyle, the 50m Breaststroke with a time of 48.12 and the 50m Butterfly in 44.33. Kieron Abadioru took home Gold in the 50m Butterfly with a time of 46.92 and then another in the 50m Freestyle in 37.73 with a Bronze then following soon after in the 200m Freestyle. Ella Stevenson achieved a hat trick of Silver medals and a Bronze medal, the first Silver came in the 200m Freestyle with a PB of 3:16.23 followed by the 50m Backstroke in 48.32 and the 100m IM in 1:46.47. Samuel Setford picked up more medals in this category with Silver in the 100m IM with a PB of 1:40.02 and Bronze in the 50m Freestyle, with Chloe Keegan winning Bronze in the 200m Freestyle in 3:35.53.

 In the 10 year old category we saw 85 PB’s, 9 Gold medals, 9 Silvers and 8 Bronze. Maisie Lawn as with Olivia Cooper in the younger age group won Gold in each of the events she competed in, Maisie took home Gold in the 50m Breaststroke in 45.87, the 50m Backstroke in 40.27 and then took her form into the 50m Butterfly, 100m Butterfly and 100m IM events. Dylan Wood picked up medals within all of his 6 events by winning Gold in the 100m Backstroke with a PB of 1:31.99 and in the 200m Freestyle in 2:45.11, Dylan also took home Silver Medals in the 100m IM, 50m and 100m Freestyle events as well as Bronze in the 50m Backstroke. Macy Huthwaite won Gold in the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:48.00 followed up with Silvers in the 50m Backstroke, 100m Butterfly, 100m IM and 50m Freestyle and Bronze in the 50m Breaststroke. Aiden Fourie also had a good day by winning Gold in the 100m Breaststroke in a time of 1:56.12. Odafe Abadioru earned Silver medals in the 50m and 100m Butterfly events, Bronze medals in the 50m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle, other Bronze medallists in this category were Ross Bishop in the 200m Freestyle and Zain Kadhim in the 100m Backstroke.

Similar success was seen in the 11 year old age group, 49 PB’s were achieved,6 Gold medals, 10 Silver medals and 5 Bronze. Angus Robertson won Gold with a good 200m swim in 2:32.79 while also picking up Silver medals in the 100m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke. Charlie Ovey won Gold in the 50m Freestyle in 32.88 and won a Bronze in the 50m Backstroke with Ellie Shanahan taking home 2 Silver medals in the 200m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly. Isabel Setford won 5 medals in total, 2 Gold medals in the 100m Freestyle in 1:14.03 and 200m Freestyle in 2:38.76, Silver in the 100m Backstroke and Bronze in the 50m Backstroke and 100m IM. Poppy Holmes accumulated 6 medals in total on the day with Golds in the 50m Backstroke in 39.42 and 100m Backstroke in 1:25.73, Silver medals were also achieved in the 50m, 100m & 200m Freestyle events as well as the 100m IM. Thomas Dudman also picked up two Bronze medals within this category in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke events.

 In the twelve year old category we watched a total of 32 PB’s which consisted of 4 Golds, 2 Silvers and 7 Bronze medals. Cydnie Peterson took home 3 of the 4 Gold medals with success coming in the 50m Butterfly in 33.63, the 100m Backstroke in 1:15.95 and the 100m IM in 1:19.75, Cydnie also took home a Bronze medal in the 200m Freestyle. Joshua Frampton picked up the other Gold medal in the 100m Backstroke event with a time of 1:25.12 followed up with a Silver in the 200m Freestyle. Other medallists were Aaron Edwards with Silver in the 100m Freestyle in 1:08.66 followed up with Bronze medals in the 100m IM and 200m Freestyle. Further Bronze medallists were Helen Panton in the 100m Butterfly, Joshua Frampton in the 50m Breaststroke, Luke Bishop in the 50m Backstroke and Miguel Newman in the 100m Butterfly.

Fifteen PB’s were achieved in the 13 year old category and a total of 3 medals, a Silver and two Bronze. Charlie Brewster won Silver in the 50m Butterfly with a PB of 33.40 and Bronze in the 100m IM in 1:17.04, with Holly Ovey taking home Bronze in the 100m Freestyle in 1:13.57.

In the fourteen year old category we saw another 23 PB’s, 1 Gold medal, 7 Silver medals and 5 Bronze. Francesca Thomas won the Gold with a time of 2:19.69 in the 200m Freestyle followed up with a Silver in the 100m Breaststroke and Bronze in the 50m and 100m Freestyle. Jade Braybroke won 2 Silver medals in the 200m Freestyle in 2:19.72 and the 50m Backstroke in 34.26 and a Bronze in the 100m Backstroke in 1:11.68. Sam Little took home 4 Silver medals the first coming in the 50m Freestyle in 27.81 with others coming in the 50m Breaststroke, the 50m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly, this was followed up with Bronze in the 100m Freestyle in 1:02.95. Yasmin Kadhim also picked up a Bronze medal in the 200m Freestyle with a time of 2:20.99.

 We saw similar success in the 15 year old category with 21 PB’s, 5 Golds, 5 Silvers and 8 Bronze medals. Lucie Davis won 4 Gold medals, these came in the 200m Freestyle with a time of 2:17.34, the 100m Butterfly in 1:14.16, the 50m Backstroke in 35.10 and the 100m IM in 1:16.25. Lucie also took home  Silver in the 100m Backstroke and a Bronze in the 100m Freestyle. Daniel Sida won Gold in the 50m Freestyle with a PB of 26.68 as well as 3 Silvers in the 50m Backstroke, the 100m Freestyle and 100m Breaststroke and a Bronze in the 100m Butterfly. Haashim Hameed took home Silver in the 100m Freestyle in 59.68 and Bronze in the 50m Breaststroke with Charlie Rouse picking up 2 Bronze medals in the 50m and 100m Freestyle events. Katie Fitzwater won Silver in the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:28.05 and picked up another two Bronze medals in the 50m Backstroke and 200m Freestyle.
