2017 Regional Youth and Age Group Championships
Fourteen swimmers from Killerwhales represented the club in the 2017 Regional Youth and Age Group Championships. In the Regional Youth Championships our swimmers achieved a total of one Gold medal, two Bronze medals and nine top ten place finishes. The Age Group Championships were equally as successful, we witnessed a Gold medal, one Bronze medal and nine top ten finishes.
Seven swimmers competed in the Youth Championships. Harry Spencer continued to demonstrate how well he’s swimming in the longer disciplines by winning Gold in the 1500m Freestyle in a time of 17:21.50, and Bronze in the 400m Freestyle in 4:29.18. Harry also reached two other finals, the 200m Freestyle where he finished fifth, and the second with a ninth place finish in the 200m Butterfly. Jade Braybrooke qualified for eight events making it through to two finals, the first was the 100m Backstroke where Jade finished seventh with a time of 1:11.99, and then sixth in the 200m Butterfly in 2:39.39, Jade also finished 8th in the 800m Freestyle event. Haashim Hameed swam well and reached two Championship finals, Haashim finished tenth in the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:18.38, and fifth in the 100m Freestyle in 57.76. Lucie Davis as with Harry continued to show good form in the longer events, Lucie made it to the podium by taking home Bronze in the 800m Freestyle in 9:47.16, and also reached the final of the 200m Butterfly with a sixth place finish in 2:38.51. Lucie also swam well and finished fifth in the 400m Freestyle . Other swimmers were Tilly Pearson who competed in four events, Sam Little who competed in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly, and Brianna Cummins who competed in the 100m Butterfly.
Killerwhales also had seven swimmers who qualified for the Age Group Championships. Noah Jameson-Neal swam in seven events and had a great championships, Noah won Gold in the 400m Freestyle with a time of 4:38.76, and took home bronze in the 200m Butterfly in 2:33.56. Noah narrowly missed out on Bronze in the 1500m Freestyle event, while making it through to four other finals. Ellie Shanahan made it through to the 100m Butterfly final finishing in tenth with a time of 1:22.53. Cydnie Peterson reached the final and finished seventh in the 50m Butterfly in 31.84, while also competing in four other events. Allister Cummins finished ninth in the 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2:48.39, had a top ten finish in the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1:17.49, and also swam well in the 200m IM and 50m Breaststroke event. Other swimmers who competed and swam well on the day were Macy Huthwaite who competed in the 100m Butterfly, Olivia Cooper in the 50m Breaststroke and Maisie Lawn in the 50m Butterfly.
A special mention should go out to Harry Spencer who secured a National qualifying time in the 1500m Freestyle, a great achievement.
