Sixty six swimmers from Killerwhales Swimming Club competed in the Alan Mitchell Memorial Gala hosted by Thurrock Swimming Club. The weekend was a great success, the club achieved thirty two new Essex County Qualification times, two hundred and thirty nine personal best times, ten gold medals, sixteen silver and fifteen bronze medals. We also had three swimmers who competed in their first competitive meet, Daniel Freeman, Winona Taylor and Hope Powell.

In the nine year old age group Charlie Rogers triumphed with gold in the 200m Breaststroke with a time of 3:42.72, Charlie then followed this up with two silver medals in the 200m Individual Medley and 100m Breaststroke as well as taking home Bronze in the 50m Breaststroke. Christopher Charnick touched home in front of Charlie in the 200m IM with gold and a time of 3:21.66, this was succeeded with silver medals in the 100m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke. Bella Steadman won a hattrick of Bronze medals in the 200m Backstroke, 100m Breaststroke and 200m IM.

Six medals followed In the ten & eleven year old age group, Olivia Cooper ended up with gold medals in the 400m IM with a time of 6:07.55, and the 100m Breaststroke in 1:28.19. Rhys Penfold touched home in first place in the 200m Butterfly event with a time of 3:28.78, and then went on to take bronze in the 100m Butterfly and 200m Freestyle events. Oghenekeiron Abadioru swam well to finish with bronze in the 200m Freestyle in 2:45.94.

In the twelve & thirteen year old age group Noah Jameson Neal had a good weekend with gold medals coming in the 100m Butterfly in a time 1:09.69, gold in 400m IM in 5:18.05, further golds then came in the 200m Freestyle in 2:12.94 and the 100m Breaststroke in 1:24.39, Noah also took home silver in the 200m Butterfly. Ellie Shanahan won a pair of silver medals in the 200m Butterfly and 400m Freestyle, with Joshua Frampton achieving bronze medals in the 100m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke. Maisie Lawn rounded off the medals in this age group with Bronze in the 200m Butterfly.

In the fourteen year old age group Allister Cummins excelled in the Breaststroke events finishing with gold in the 200m event in 2:43.05 followed with silvers in the 50m and 100m.  Lucie Davis won a gold medal in the 200m freestyle event with a time of 2:18.19, with Harry Spencer securing silver in the 200m Freestyle in 2:03.86. Jade Braybrooke finished with four silver medals in the 400m IM, the 200m Butterfly, the 400m Freestyle and the 100m Breaststroke, Jade then took home bronze in the 100m Butterfly and 200m IM. Daniel Sida won silver in the 100m Butterfly with a time of 1:05.67 while also taking home bronze medals in the 100m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly, Rianna Jary also had a good swim in the 400m Freestyle finishing with a time of 5:01.70.

Killerwhales will be looking forward to achieving continued success when they travel to Gillingham to compete in the Black Lion Meet on the 25th & 26th November.
